GHC is pleased to present The End of Eloquence, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by iconic Canadian artist Graham Gillmore. The paintings in the exhibition were created in Gillmore’s Winlaw, BC studio, nestled in the Slocan Valley region of the West Kootenay Mountains. Known for his seductively vibrant paintings interspersed with provocative phrases, Gillmore’s recent work comments on the slippery intricacies of personal and cultural communication. His use of suggestive text fragments and satirical word play draw attention to the indeterminacy of language. By engraving these poetic fragments into sleek layers of enamelled surfaces, Gillmore underscores the fluid and unsettled vagaries of our interpersonal exchanges. His work maintains a tenuous balance between sarcasm and sincerity, clarity and confusion, intimacy and distance.
