Greg Girard
Hanoi Calling / In The Near Distance

February 17 to March 19, 2011

The Monte Clark Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of photographs by Greg Girard.

The main gallery will feature works from Girard’s 2010 Magenta Foundation publication Hanoi Calling: One Thousand Years Now. For this project, Girard explores the overlooked features that define life for residents of Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, at their millennial anniversary.

The second gallery space will feature works from Girard’s 2010 Kominek Gallery edition, In the Near Distance. A collection of Girard’s earlier photographs circa 1973-1986, this body of work follows Girard in his travels through Japan, Korea, China, Vancouver, California, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Greg Girard’s photographs are collected by the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank, the Royal Bank of Canada, and more. His works have been featured in National Geographic, TIME, and Newsweek, among others. Previous Greg Girard exhibitions were reviewed by The New Yorker, The National Post, TIME, and The Star. Greg Girard’s last book Phantom Shanghai is listed as one of the top 10 photography books of all time by The Independent, (UK).
