Karin Bubaš
Colour Field

June 2 to July 9, 2011

Karin Bubaš’s new body of work engages coloured smoke as an expressive visual medium. The artist has literally painted on landscapes of forests and snow with various artificial hues, documenting the results through large-scale photographs and small oil paintings based on her photographic captures.

These misty landscapes float somewhere near minimalism, the focus of the viewer drawn towards the fog shapes. In certain images the hues are dreamy, while in others the smoke infusion appears bizarre. The contrast of the synthetic within these outdoor settings results in unearthly landscapes, highlighting Bubaš’s well-known ability to create mysterious and captivating narratives within her images.
