Paul Housley
A Studio for a Mind

May 30 to July 4, 2015

Monte Clark Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by London, UK-based artist Paul Housley.

Paul Housley’s work surfaces (whether canvas, paper, or found objects) are generously covered with paint. His brushstrokes are deceptively raw, building layers in discourse with art historical movements while at the same time bringing forth his own distinct language of subjects and objects.

The paintings selected for this exhibition depict various objects within Housley’s studio, and also expand to tableaux that include the workspace itself. When viewed together, the paintings have a Gestalt effect, revealing an inner dialogue of the artist and showing his studio to be as much a psychological space as well as a physical one.

Housley received his M.A. in painting from the Royal College of Art in London in 1995. He has exhibited at the Peter Bergman Gallery (Stockholm), White Columns (New York), Andrea Rosen Gallery (New York), Belmacz (London) and Poppy Sebire Gallery (London). Housley’s work has been printed in numerous publications including Artforum, Modern Painters, Frieze, The Independent, The Guardian, and ArtSlant.
