Roy Arden
Vox

November 24, 2011 to January 21, 2012

Roy Arden is widely known for his photographic work produced over the past three decades. However, in the past few years he has been vigorously producing works in other media. His recent exhibition, UNDERTHESUN at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, featured over one hundred drawings, paintings, collages, and sculptures in a wunderkammer installation.

Vox, Arden’s new exhibition for Monte Clark Gallery, Vancouver, will present recent work in a variety of media including collage, oil painting and sculpture. All of these works refer to the idea of the ‘voice’, whether understood as the speaking voice, musical voice, poetic voice or social voice. Taken as a whole, the exhibition could be seen as a poem rich in reference to an eclectic array of art history and popular culture including Loretta Lynn, Jack Spicer and Kurt Schwitters.
